Having trouble getting the answers you need? Here are some of the most common things that come up for new members, teams and interested parties.
STARTING A TEAM
Do I need a minimum number of people to start a team?
Your university may require you to have a certain number of students to establish your club at the school. The OUEA however encourages you to have a minimum of 2-3 riders on your show team, as we know most teams triple in size within their first three months of showing.
Does the OUEA accept all levels of riders?
The OUEA caters to many different levels of riders. We offer four divisions: Beginner (18”), Novice (2’3”), Intermediate (2’6”) and Open (3’0”), and the qualifications to show in each division are explained in our rulebook. For riders with previous show experience, it’s important to remember that regardless of what height you are used to showing at, for safety reasons, you will qualify for a division about 6” lower because you will be showing on a horse that you have never ridden before. Under special circumstances we may move riders up or down a division, but a formal appeal process is required with approval from the OUEA President.
Do we need a coach to show?
No, we understand with minimal funding it is difficult to hire a coach.
What are point riders?
When representatives/captains send in their entries they put which rider they think will take the most points for the day. Teams can choose 2 point riders per division. Teams get the points from the rider who places the highest. 1st place is 8 points, 2nd is 7 down to 8th place, which is 1 point. As a team you only get the points from your point rider, however individual riders get their points, whether they are a point rider or not, which go towards their season points.
